    Hi guys,

I have an AMD athlon 1.85Ghz (socket 939 I think?) on an Msi-7070 ver. 1.3 motherboard. ati radeon express 300 chipset I believe.

I picked up the computer for free as it had no working sound and was unbearably slow according to the previous owner. it's slow because it's running Vista x86 on only 512MB of RAM, i know that, and that issue can be fixed.

it has onboard Realtek AC'97 audio, and ever since I've gotten it, no driver will get the on-board sound working. I've tried the drivers straight from Realtek, windows update drivers, and even searched for patched drivers available on google, but nothing has worked so far for me. I must have tried 10-15 different drivers so far.

as a temporary fix, I've found a SB0100 and plugged it in, but it was not compatible with Vista :(... So after a week of searching I found the kxproject (god bless those guys).. and i managed to finally get sound for the first time via the PCI card. but no onboard sound.

I would like to free up the PCI slot if possible, I dont need fancy sound. I would rather have something more useful int he slot, as I only have 2 PCI slots.

I know this is a VERY common problem among vista users, and I'm wondering if you guys have already solved this problem and have a possible solution for me?

    Thanks for your time,
    Nick
