Realtek AC97 on HP Pavilion not installing

Windows XP, HP Pavilion, Foxconn (dunno whats its for i saw it written on where the sound is connected inside the computer). Im not to smart with computer but the sound isnt working after a complete format of my hard drive, ive installed every single other driver apart from the built in Realtek AC97 Audio Driver. Ive gone into Device Mananger or whatever its called and tried to install it but everytime i try to it says that it couldnt find the necessary software for this hardware. I didnt get a disc with thios computer as it was given to me by a friend and ive asked him for the disc and he said he hasnt got it either. Ive searched the internet for so long and ive downloaded the Realtek AC97 updates from the taiwan site. Its really starting to tick me of because i have no sound. If anyone can email me or post the answer here for me that would be great. Thanks

I didn't know drivers were built in. If so, why are there downloads for them? Is it possible they can be damaged? If they can be damaged then possibly yours is.
I don't know what drivers you have actually downloaded, so I am starting here.

Foxconn is a MoBo builder certified by ATI

 

First you might ant to check your bios to see if the onboard sound is enabled also make sure your not trying to install the wrong driver, You can get the realtek drivers from this site http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and see if they help.

 

I had the same problem on doing a clean install. So on the run Tab type in DXDIAG in caps this brings up your DirectX Diagnostic Tool on the bottom left you will see a check WHQL is there a tick in this box? if no put one in there on sound tab see what's loaded if its blank download Realtek AC'97 Drivers 3.29 from Majorgeeks download pages.
If you do a step by step on your DXDIAG it will help you to sort out sound and show you things that are loaded on your computer.
