Realtek Drivers Not Installing

Hey,
I've recently been having freezing issues with my laptop and I tried updating a bunch of drivers to try to fix it. When it came to the audio driver however after restarting my laptop there's a little red x next to the volume button and when I click it, it instantly tries to troubleshoot which fails and audio doesn't work at all. The driver I tried installing was: Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.8100_W10x64_A
my device is an Asus TravelMate Spin B118-RN running windows 10.

What's weird is that there is no audio driver showing up in device manager and I also found these two errors in system information, problem devices:
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0255&SUBSYS_10251198&REV_1000\4&1BC001C5&1&0001 This device is not configured correctly.
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_280A&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000\4&1BC001C5&1&0201 This device is not configured correctly.

Is there no Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager?

 

yeah. if I tick show hidden devices in view it does come up with some but i don't think they're anything I need.

 

Any Other Devices in Device Manager?

 

yes it has two "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" tabs in it

 

Try updating the drivers from there.

Is there a Roll Back Driver option?

 

not for the devices under "other devices"

 

I would do the following:

• Disconnect from the Internet - you don't want Windows downloading/installing audio drivers.
• Uninstall the drivers for both those devices.
• Restart the PC.
• Install the driver.
• Restart the PC.

 

alright, I've tried doing that but no success. The devices reinstall every time I restart so I tried deleting them, installing the driver and then restarting but also didn't work.

 

I suggest you try a driver updater.
Ensure you select only the Audio Driver - you don't want other drivers messed up.

alright I updated the "sound video and game controllers" driver but still broken, hovering over the volume button in the taskbar says "no audio output device is installed" and the drive installer has a symbol next to "sound video and game controllers" saying "it's an unplugged device"

 

When an onboard device shows as 'unplugged', there might be a hardware problem even though I have not yet seen a hardware device being damaged by drivers.
I can't think of anything else.

 

hmm, yeah its weird, it probably isn't a hardware issue because it only started when I tried installing the new driver. If anyone else might know what's going on please feel free to chip in.

 

Have you tried restoring the system to a time prior to losing the sound?

oh good idea, unfortunately, the computer didn't save any restore points from before.

 

Alright, it's managed to fix itself. I'm not sure what happened but I was messing around with various versions of sound drivers I'd downloaded trying to update the drivers manually and when I came back from lunch and turned on my laptop it was working. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys.
