    Hi all.

I'm going to start from the beginning on this one. The computer has had problems with audio from the day I built it back in January 09'. First the front earphone jack has never worked. Giving feedback when a set of earphones are inserted. Earphones are known to be good. Feedback is different though. You can plug the phones in and close your eyes. While moving the mouse you can tell when the pointer is over an icon. The feedback would intensify. Still could hear music through them but you wouldn't want to.

Also from day one, we could never get sound from any flash video. Youtube, MSNBC, ESPN. Video would go but no audio. I've tried everything from removing/reinstalling Adobe Flash to removing/reinstalling Firefox/Chrome/IE. This has gotten to a point where we just can't deal with it any longer. Yesterday I removed the Realtek High Definition Audio program and tried to reinstall it. Can't do it!

So now the third problem. No audio at all. Every time I try to install the driver I run into a "Timeout" error. I've downloaded the driver from ASUS, Realtek, and download.com. None of them would work. I've tried to install the driver from the ASUS support disk but still no audio.

Can anybody help? I've attached some Everest.txt files. There are two of them seeing that I don't know what and how much information anybody needs. At this point I have uninstalled all Realtek programs, ran CC Disk Cleaner, ran Registry Cleaner, checked to make sure the Windows Audio service is Started and Automatic, checked the BIOS, and prayed to the great Geek Gods for support.

    Thanks and sorry so long,
    cgray

    Missing txt file info.

    Motherboard - ASUS P5Q PRO.

I don't know why that didn't show up in the Everest report.

    Hi

In Device Manager, what devices have a yellow ! mark by them? if any are say PCIBus or similar then you maybe missing the Chipset driver, this is needed to allow many other devices to be corretly installed, including audio.

So download and when downloading do not choose RUN, but choose Save, then install the Chipset driver and reboot, then install the Audio driver. Also double check you are downloading and installing the x64 (64bit) version of the drivers.

    Chipset

    Audio

As a longshot, as the motherboard was not working since you had it, it may well be faulty, check on status to RMA it with ASUS.

Thank you for the reply and sorry about taking so long.

I have looked through the Device Manager and the only problem is for the sound, video and game controllers which is all under one.

Couple questions. In the first paragraph of my initial post I mentioned about my audio not working for the Flash videos but it did work for everything with the computer. One part I left out is we do the Instant Viewing through Netflix and I am able to listen to the audio of that. Why?

In respect to not having the updated chipset, why did it work before?

I'll try what you replied. Is there anything worth mentioning before I proceed? Do I have to uninstall any driver before hand?

Once again thank you for the help!

Alright. So I installed the chipset driver and rebooted. I then tried to install the audio Realtek driver and nothing again. Everything tries to install but it gets to a certain spot then it freezes. Computer doesn't freeze just the installer program stops.

    Comes up with a:
Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!
    [Error Code : 0x000005B4]
    <OK> button

    I click the <OK>
    Nothing.

Look in the Device Menu and still Yellow on Sound.
Look in Programs Uninstall and no Realtek
Look under C:/Program Files and there is a Realtek folder.

In trying to troubleshoot this problem I had in extra 40Gb hard drive so I installed it onto this rig. I also detached the two pre-existing 500Gb HDD to do this.

I then installed with the same Vista Ultimate 64 and everything works. Actually worked better then the other unit because for the first time I have audio coming out of all Adobe Flash videos.

Now I'm thinking it's a corrupt registry. Any help?!
