I had my xfx mobo 780i changed to an Asus p5n-t de luxe after the xfx charred and get my RMA, my question is about the Realtek drivers, I have realteks remains all around system and Sound max too that installed with the new Asus mobo...

Do I have to fully remove all realtek drivers and references, including the ethernets and just leave the Sound max that came with Asus installation cd...

I am totally inept with pc matters, so pls explain as simple as possible, thanks n advance.

    Hi

To be perfectly honest it would be better to clean install Windows again from scratch as changing motherboards and using the same HDD and its associated Windows and driver install only asks for issues to arrise.

What Windows version and Service Pack you using?

Does the PC boot ok with the new motherboard installed?
Do you have many yellow ! marks in Device Manager? if so what?

Personally I would remove the older previous Audio drivers and install the specific ones from ASUS for your new motherboard, will help remove any conflicts that may arrise, but as I previously mentioned I know I would be clean installing say after a backup of my important files, images and settings (basically anything you want to save).

I will try to do a clean install, about saving saving important files and settings, I have no idea of how to do it if I have to delete all in order to make the clean install as I read somewhere....

Thanks for your prompt reply and advise, I will post again to let you know results, wish me luck in this venture of installing...lol It is that I am 72 years old and in my times, pc's were just Flash Gordons fantasies lol..

Tks a lot sir, much appreciated

    Hi Konko

Hey 72yrs old good for you in delving into the depths of the PC, dont start the clean install until you are happy to do so, and lets look at removing your old drivers first and seeing if we can retro install and keep Windows going ok with the new motherboard and hardware, basically enter device manager and uninstall the older audio drivers and reboot, then install the drivers listed at ASUS for the p5n-t deluxe but you'll need to tell me what Windows version you are using first so I can get the correct drivers?

To backup the majority of your files and settings you can use Windows Easy Transfer but will need a USB Hard Drive perferably or a DVD burner as the file size could be large.

HALO: All came out perfect as you stated, just followed your advice and now I am ready with my new clean installation of WXP....Sure it was quite an experience, specially due to language barrier understanding the terminology in English, been my native language the Spanish.....

Was a bumpy road but an happy ending...all drivers installed, programs back to normal and able to play my fav game DFX, which I play daily..

Many thanks for your dear cooperation

PS: Took me several hours, but patience and perseverance paid up.Everything running smooth to my surprise and still alive.... Even removed the extra HDD's and now with 1 only, the 500gb.
I will be around and will keep you posted of developments or/and looking for your help if needed...

    Hi Konko

Seems you managed really well, good job and glad all has worked out for you, and you are very welcome, enjoy your day.

Just a passing thought, and one that now you have a nice working Windows is to do whats called an Image or Clone backup, can take either an external HDD or CD/DVDs to backup onto (note that depending on the size of your Windows install, applications and saved files, it may use a few CD/DVDs) but this application is free and very good for backups.

    EASEUS ToDO Backup
Guides on how to use under the orange Resource menu HERE

The benefit is if you have a good working Image/Clone say kept upto date weekly, if you do have a major failure or crash in Windows, you can recover the Image back and your PC and all installed applications are back up and running quickly, its just a thought.

    Halo;

It was a breeze transferring all my files for making that back up with your suggested program, the Todo EASEUS is phenomenal, easy to use and dummy proof..... Thanks a zillion
