I have a Lenovo K450 2THD 16G Ram Win 8.1. All of a sudden when I start the computer, the
system boots but will not open. I have to reboot 3/4 x's before it opens, and sometimes it will
not open for a couple of minutes after it boots. T.I.A.for any help.

Explain what you mean by "will not open". Is the screen black? Does it say loading Windows and stalls there? Or something else?

Thanks for the reply. When loading windows the word "Lenovo" appears, as usual, the the screen turns black and stays. Have to reboot 3 or 4 time before the boot completes.

So it appears for some reason it is stuck at the BIOS (Lenovo image) covers this up.

I'm reading that in Windows 8/8.1 F8 no longer works to boot into safe mode. So that creates problems too. It sounds like a complicated process to get into safe mode from a cold boot which I had hoped to try.

    Shift F8 might work

I'll look to see why a computer might get stuck on the logo. I'll post if I find anything worth trying.

You don't have a USB drive plugged in when you boot up, do you? That creates a problem. Here is a 5 page thread

Go into the BIOS and post the order of the boot devices please.

Thanks, I have several usb drives, have had for years, on this computer. I boot from the HD first, then from dvd drive F.

I'd check as to whether one of the sticks of RAM is bad. Assuming that the 16GB of RAM is 2 x 8GB, test booting the machine with just one 8 GB module at a time.
If you can successfully and consistently boot with one of the RAM sticks, then you may want to test the other stick with something like Memtest86+.
