Rebooting problem before startup

After having a problem with my cpu overheating leading to it turning off once past 60 degrees. I've fitted some fans and re-laid some coolent get. This has resolved this issue. However, now at startup windows fails to load. After asking if I want to start the computer in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc, the windows logo comes up with the sliding loading bar but about 5 seconds into it, it restarts. This happens no matter which of the 4 options I choose. I've gone through the bios and restored original settings but still no luck. Any ideas guys? By the way, im running xp pro.

 

You could be dealing with several different problems: flakey RAM, failing hard drive, corrupt Windows, etc.... if the CPU was run at near shutdown temps for any length of time, it may have been damaged by the heat. Visit your hard drive maker's web site, download and run their diagnostic tools to see if the hard drive is dying. Visit the Memory section here at MajorGeeks and get a bootable RAM diagnostic (I like the Microsoft one) and run the advanced or extended tests for at least 3 or 4 passes, preferably longer, to see if your RAM is healthy. You could also try a safe reload of Windows to see if that fixes the problem. Have you tried pressing F8 and selecting 'Disable automatic restart upon system failure'? That will stop the reboot and show a blue screen error with an error code that you can look up at Microsoft's knowledge base for a possible fix.... good luck and keep us posted!!!
