Hi - My computer has been giving me problems for some time now. I wanna get someone's advice with this. The spec is:

    Win XP Pro
    3.0Ghz Pentium 4 Processor
    Asus P4P800 SE Motherboard
    1GB DDR RAM
NVidia 256MB Graphics Card (Very nice one)
    2 X DVD Drives (1 is a writer)
    2 X Hard Drives (180GB and 80GB)
    550W Power Supply

So here's the problem. Every so often the computer just decides to reboot! Out of nowhere it seems.. I've tried to work out if it's any particular thing I'm doing but it really seems quite random. My own conclusion is that something is over-heating but I'm not sure what? When I opened it up everything was very warm to touch. Not sore but quite warm nevertheless. I have disconnected the second hard drive as I only use this for backup but the problem persists. Any advice much appreciated! I decided to write this as last night alone, it rebooted 4 times which is very strange.. I have installed the application that came with the mother board which tells me that everything seems normal temperature wise

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Start, run and type in sysdm.cpl then OK.

In the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.

Uncheck Automatically Restart under System Failure, then OK.

That doesn't fix the problem, but it will stop it from restarting and hopefully provide you with an error message.

Ok Nice one! So I've done that. Anything else you think this could be? Faulty hardware? Faulty memory? Lack of cooling fans?

It could be hardware or software.

Next time it does it, it should give you an error message. Hopefully that will give you more details on what it is.

You could also check your Event Log.

Start, run and type in eventvwr.msc then OK. (it's not unusual to have some errors in there, but see if you can find the error that is responsible by checking the time etc)
