    Pentium 700 CPU
    300 watt PSU
    40 WD hard drive
    Diamond 64 video card
    Win 98 OS
    256K crucial RAM

I would like to keep this computer for my kids stuff. I aready purchased a temporary computer to get me by. Any help would greaty appreciated

    Hi
    Welcome to MG

Sometimes spyware will reboot the computer, to find out if this is the case you should do the following.

This site has alot of good tools for cleaning up your computer. It's very important that the first thing you do is the following:

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal.
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.

Try this... you may find it's all you need. If that doesn't fix it then post your results and I am sure one of the PROS can help you. They may refer you to hardware or software or want to look at a HijackThis log. These guys are quite busy, as you can see by the number of posts, so hang in there. Good Luck!! :)

If you reformat your HD will this eliminate any hidden viruses?

Yes, Formatting a HDD will erase all data on drive.

If you formatted the HDD and reinstalled your OS and your machine still reboots, then your problem is hardware. Please post this problem in the hardware forum.

    Thanks, Bj:)

Check your memory (run a memory test) and check for temperature related problems. Are your fans all working?

Some memory testers are available here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads26.html

But BJ is probably correct in that this belongs in the hardware forum.
