    Here's the skinny:

    I have ditched Comcast. :major
I now only have an internet connection to work with - no phone associated.

Now I watch TV through my new ISP on the web. I have found Hulu and TVGuide.com to be the best aggregators to find what I want to watch as far as television (if I can call it that now). I watch movies and some TV series with my $8 per month Netflix subscription.

The buzz kill: I thought Google Voice would work to make phone calls, but it must be associated with a phone number as GV makes the call through whatever phone I can verify. I don't have a phone anymore. :major

Skype only does PC-to-PC calls for free, and I've already mentioned the issue with GV.

I'm on the hunt right now, but not having the success I had hoped for. I'm going to keep searching, but if there's a tried and true bit of software out there (free source), give the donkey some stuff!

    Thanks,

    7

The caveat seems to be that the free pc-to-phone calls are limited to 3 or 5 minutes. I haven't given up yet though!

Keep the suggestions rolling, and I'll test every one!

To my knowledge, free PC to phone calls USED to exist (and at that, I only knew of 2 or 3 services that provided such), but don't anymore. The ones I knew of didn't last but a few months anyway.

I think the reason for this is that it does cost money to route the calls to a phone.

If someone knows a free service though, I'll gladly consider it myself.

A very cheap alternative is Yahoo! Voice. I've used it in the past.

    Hello, Majors.

I have been trying SIP numbers and a free ipKall number with free proxys along with SipSorcery. A softphone is involved in the process too. Shew!

This seems to be the only way left to do what I want (make unlimited calls from my PC to any PC or phone/cell phone).

I know it's going to work - I just have to configure everything properly. I'm going to get a fresh look at all of it tomorrow. errr...or maybe right now. :major

Everything else has been hooked up with $ amounts. I'm willing to sit at a PC to make calls, but not many people have that strong a desire to stick it to the man, so to speak.

Google has acquired Gizmo5 though and are currently making the changes necessary to use a Gizmo5 number with the Google Voice number. The two had an agreement until Gizmo5 realized it was loosing a lot of dollars - then Google just did what Google does and bought them.

    Cheers!

PS If there are any software developers out there - this would be an end all be all project! There are seemingly plenty of free phone numbers, sip numbers and proxys and softphone apps out there - just no free software to tie them all neatly together. :major
