recommend a firewall?

hello, i seem to be getting a lot of spyware recently and was just wondering if anyone could tell me whether they think the firewall with windows service pack 2 is good enough, or whether i should get something like a Sygate or Zonealarm firewall.

No it is not good enough! You need to download one like you mentioned (also see How to Protect yourself from malware! ) and after installing one of them. Disable the one in XP SP2 to avoid having conflicts.

In fact you should complete all the steps in the How to Protect thread.

I have a router from Linksys that says it has a firewall. I have not installed it yet. Will that do or do you still need a softward firewall?

I got the Sygate firewall and its doing a good job, no complaints so far. thx for the advice

The software firewall is still recommended.
