recovering deleted files across a network

Is it possible to recover deleted files across a network, or will i need to do it from the computer at the other end of the network? Using winxp home on the host, winxp-pro on the networked computer....
I can scan-search-browse- but none of my recovery software seems to be able to recognise the network drives(yes, I have set up network drives with unique names + drive letters)

However if the remote computer has a local recovery program on it you can do it with a regular remote control program.

Install the remote control program take control of the remote computer and start the local recovery program.
