You can download the user manual from HERE. I would have done it for you but the site requires you to register before downloading, and I wasn't keen about that as I get enough unwanted stuff already.

The manual should tell you how to go about recovering the original state, almost certainly by using an F key combination.

If you have saved any data that you want, then, no problem, but if you can get into safe mode, and start at all, I suggest that you try to save anything to a usb stick- (note that when attatching this usb stick to your clean laptop- make sure your antivirus is up to date, and it might be worth putting 'innoculate ( a small program that can innoculate the usb stick, before opening it.
Your original error message could have been a virus- see microsoft answers, here

Sorry I have only popped in to help again (busy day)
If you followed the first link, it explains more
Recover Windows to first partition only.
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".
    Recover Windows to entire HD.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (25%) and "D" (75%).
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.
If you have saved your data, the last one I found best (two partitions on entire hard drive)
If you did not then if your data is on a seperate partion, and windows is on C: Then you will probably choose the first option.
If you want to keep data seperate from windows (in case of another crash in the future, it is better to keep a seperate partition for it, so that re-installing windows will not lose your data
You must follow the instructions all the way.

    Ok thanks for the heko
when I boot it up,it goes to help. the list you have mentioned and gives me those 3 options to recover
I've tried all 3 ways and it will begin to start them, the 0-100% bar gets to about 5% and the SCREEN SAYS error

I was able to do something that offered different choices, one of the choices was to choose where to get a dic to restore it, and it gave me an error code, I need to write down those choices and the error (which the screen told me to tell an ASUS tech support)
but my friend is gonna send me a Windows XP repair disc, I use windows 7, so it might not work....but I'll check and see
I am on campus, so I am using a keyboard to type, but usually I am only able to use my Ipod Touch and that sucks

I am considering getting a MAC, those dont get viruses?

I just want this thing to work...dang it,,Im about to buy a external CD drive so i can try the recovery disc, but heres what happened to cause this
i read the manual about how restore my computer to FACTORY SETTINGS
and I was doing that and the computer said the parition that had all the Factory settings wasnt working

I know before i had done anything, my C drive was 25% full and my D drive was 100% empty...so maybe it never had a recovery partition?
I know I had tried to make a restore point and I got an error saying that didnt happen

Would a restore disc work if I ordered on

  14. baklogic

    baklogic The Tinkerer

Before ordering a restore disc, it seems possible that the bootloader is corrupted, so I would first use that startup disc to get to repair, and choose Command prompt.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
I would first try the bottrec steps, typing in Bootrec.exe
    Quote:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
    2. Press a key when you are prompted.
    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
    4. Click Repair your computer.
    5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
    6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
    7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
    8. Follow the microsoft instructions- and if this does not work, then , again in the command prompt of the repair disc, type as microsofts instructions
    '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''bootrec/fixmbr, and press enter
    1. Then type bootrec/fixboot, and press enter
    Then type EXIT, PRESS ENTER
Remove the tart up disc, and restart

O don't have a windows disc windows was preloaded and I don't have a cd drive
I ordered a cd drive and recovery disc
iPod touch is NOR good to post with

If you have ordered that then let us know how you get on, - I apologise, I thought I gave you a download for windows 7 start up disc
    http://digiex.net/downloads/downloa.../2659-windows-7-32-bit-x86-recovery-disc.html
but if you have nothing to burn it with (it was an iso) then the cd drive will always be a useful extra- The other way was to use a usb stick, which are available ready loaded with windows 7,to re-install windows 7, but you would not have the other programs that came with the laptop

if you gave me that link, I missed it,
i've been doing my browsing/posting with my Ipod-touch, not to be confused with an IPAD, this small screen and lack of any USBdrives was a gift, I'd never buy such a useless gizmo.

I am at a school computer and have downloaded the file from the link you nicely provided and when I get home I'll give it a whirl.

    i dont have one?

i bought the Asus laptop with windows installed already
i'm at a public library using the computer and only get an hour to be online and i'm not sure what to do now. to get this ISo file
the worst part is, i think i have the ISo file on my usb port, called... windows 7 64 bit.. Disc image file

but when i have this on the Usb drive and only this file, I can't get my laptop to read the file or recongize it's there

You have copied the iso- what you need to do is to have this 'burned tod advd, or to the usb device for it to work. You need to find a friend who has a pc/laptop and transfer the iso file to their computer, and then burn to dvd, and as you have no dvd drive, it has to be put on the usb stick using diskpart, and I would rather not suggest you doing that as it needs a little more knowledge -Iassume you did not get the external dvd drive ??

    i'm lost
i have the iso file on my usb drive, the only file

    windows complete pc restore
    the screen comes up
RESTORE YOUR ENTIRE COMPUTER FROM A BACKUP

    then the error message
NO VALID back UP LOCATIONS CAN BE found

i am getting an external drive from ASus, it still have not come in the mail
I thought I could put the ISO on a USB drive and have that work instead of cD drive
the ISo file is the only file on the usb drive, i'm goingto reformat the USB drive and then put the ISO file on their again..i'm not sure what to do

oh, i dont know what "diskpart is"?
i downloaded the file from the previous link and choose the 64 bit and i copied that to the usb drive

    diskpart

ok i think i realize what this is, via wiki,

why is it different to have a iso file burned to a cd than just copied to a usb drive?
why will the file burned to a cd work and the file copied to a usb wonT?

You cannot install Windows 7 from the ISO file until you copy it to a USB flash drive or DVD with the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool and install from there.
The copy of the ISO file that the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool creates is bootable. Bootable media allows you to install Windows 7 without having to first run an existing operating system on your machine. If you change the boot order of drives in your computer's BIOS, you can run the Windows 7 installation directly from your USB flash drive
Try downloading from the windows 7 to usb tool from majorgeeks
    http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_7_USBDVD_Download_Tool_d6265.html

At least it will give you something to try, until the discs, and dvd drive arrives

I dont have acess to a computer that allows me to install files.
So although I downloaded the file you linked, I cannot install it on my computer or USB drive.

I have Windows 7 64-bit Repair Disc ISO as the only file on my USB drive, so that isnt working because the BOOT order of my machine is wrong? So the file link you gave me, changes the boot order and then should allow win 7 to work. is that right?

  28. baklogic

    baklogic The Tinkerer

The iso is a disc image, and needs to be converted by an iso capable program while then putting a bootable file onto the usb stick.
You need to have the laptop booting from usb, as the first bootable device, AND the iso image loaded using the bootable program from majorgeeks downloads .
In other words you need this on someone,s desktop, or, laptop.

    http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_7_USBD...ool_d6265.html
You need the iso image in the same place
You then need to start the tool, and in doing so, direct it to the iso file, brouse to the usb stick, and it should install properly on to the usb stick a bootable copy of the startup disc.

I got my external harddrive today and tomorrow my asus recovery disc should will come.
so all i have to do is start up the laptop with the disc in the slot, right?

When you get your cd//dvd drive- I hope that is what you meant- not external hard drive, as that will not help with re-installation.
Connect your external cd/dvd drive , before booting up.
Then boot your laptop,to the bios, (was it F2?) to check first of all ,if there is as an option to boot from the cd/dvd drive.
If it does not show, press F10 save and exit, and let it reboot. You must now be sure it is set to boot from CD.
ONCE YOU HAVE SET TO BOOT FROM THE EXTERNAL CD/DVD DRIVE, THEN YOU SHOULD SEE A QUICK LINE OF WORDS ASKING TO PRESS ANY KEY TO START FROM CD.
If this step works o.k, then follow the instructions to format, and reinstall everything, I assume that you have saved any data that is inportant to you.
COME BACK AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.

The the recovery CDs came today, with directions on how to use them

I put the one in external cd drve and ...it didn't work

So I called ASus and the tech gave me step by step by step durections, this call was free. And the notebook wouldn't boot

I ended up mailing the notebook to them,it's under warranty so it free
