Its not exactly a specific error I'm getting. No "error" messages pop up.

This is my problem. Everytime I delete something, it is removed from wherever it was, then if I click the recycle bin to empy it out, it never shows up.

When I click "Empty the Recycle Bin" It always asks to remove the same 14 files, which, dont show anyway.

I've never had a problem with it before up untill a while ago. If its possible, post things in really simple terms, I'm not a computer guru, so, the more simple, the better.

    Thankyou!

First, Download CCleaner and run the first scan only. If this doesnt fix it follow the below.

As this could be a possible VX2 infection as it does this. To rule this out do the following:

    For Windows XP:

    For Win98/ME/00:

Unzip the Generic Detection Tool to a safe folder of your choice and run "find.bat" - Allow it as much time as it needs to run. You may get an error message of "File Not Found," but just let it go.

The tool should generate a long text file. Attach this log as an attachment to your post.

DO NOT REBOOT AFTER POSTING THIS LOG!

If you have this I will have this moved into the right forum, hopefully this is not the problem!

I figured something terrible was wrong with it.

I dont do much on the computer, my siblings do. They complained about things not working and I couldnt figure it out myself, as I'm not computer savvy.

    Thanks for the help.

    Please download the following tool:

    L2MeFix Tool

Please move the L2MeFix Tool to your Desktop and DoubleClick l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix Folder on your Desktop. DoubleClick l2mfix.bat and type 2 and ENTER to select option #2 for Run Fix. Then, press any key to Reboot your machine.
Your computer will go crazy for a bit, but just let it run. It should eventually spit out a log in Notepad. Please attach that log.

Please don't run any other files in the L2MFix folder.

When this is complete attach the log as well as a fresh log from find.bat

    Good Luck!

Before we do anything else, do as many steps as possible in this sticky thread
READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After you complete the steps in the READ ME, procede to the next step.

    • Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT
    • Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file.
    • Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.
    • Run HijackThis and save your log file.
    • Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    Question-

    System restore tab?

If there was one, I'd click it. But I dont seem to have one.

    Win2000 or WinXP?

If Win2000 you dont have System Restore.

    XP.

I checked the Help and Support as well and it gave me basically the same thing. The click on the "System Restore" tab.

    I dont have that.

    In system properties there's:
    General
    Computer Name
    Hardware
    Remote
    Automatic Updates
    Advanced

Click Start > Run > type in Net Start and see if tab appears.

    If not, then procede!

    First:
    Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\sr

Double-click Start, change the value to 0

    NEXT:

Now navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore

If a "DisableSR" value doesn't exist, go to the Edit menu, select New, DWORD value, and create the value.
Set the value to 1 to disable System Restore.

    Reboot!

Let me know how this works.

Net start doesn't even stay up.

It looks like it loads something then exits out quickly.

Thats normal, check to see if the tab is there now. If not procede to the rest. After you completed the registry edits, reboot and it will be disabled.
