    Good morning,
My free 3 months of showtime anytime from our cable provider has turned into a nightmare for my wee laptop. I have viscous redirect malware on board. Or maybe it was from java? Not sure. I've been working through your steps to remove it all. I have a sony vaio and am running windows 8. I got to the MRB and ran it. I am attaching the Goodred log and MRB log for you to guide me in my next steps. Firefox still redirects to nation zoom w a conduit search engine somehow as an option.
    IE seems fine now.

    Thank you for the help!

Wow, that is a lot to download! OK, I'll try it and report back.

How did this even happen? It was a showtime plug in. This is crazy. I downloaded the same plug in on our PC running windows 7 without a problem. I have AVG on the laptop and the pc. What made the laptop w the same anti virus fall prey to the malware?

    Thank you,

    Sue

    Hey again,
OK, I followed all the instructions. I have four more files to attach for you to read and give me my next steps. The one that says 'filelog' is from the MG tools in C. If this isn't what you want, I'll look through the files again. No C:\MGlogszip was found, which is where the program said it would be. The attached file is a log file, so I hope it is correct.

    THANK YOU

    Uninstall the below:

    • BitGuard
    • VideoPlayer v2.0.6

Re run Hitman and have it delete Potential Unwanted Programs.

    http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/9659/rktigzy.gif Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these 2 detections:

    • [APPINIT][SUSP PATH] HKLM\[...]\Windows : AppInit_DLLs (c:\progra~3\bitguard\271769~1.27\{c16c1~1\loader.dll [x]) -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] DealPly : C:\Users\Sue\AppData\Roaming\DealPly\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [x] -> FOUND
Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

Delete the below if you see them:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\nationzoom.xml
    • C:\ProgramData\BitGuard
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\MyPC Backup
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Optimizer Pro
    • C:\Users\Sue\AppData\Roaming\DealPly

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.nationzoom.com/web/?type=ds&ts=1386456797&from=tugs&uid=WDCXWD10JPVT-55A1YT0_WD-WX21E42AJW17AJW17&q={searchTerms}

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

If Firefox is still redirecting, I have a fix.

    Good morning,
I followed the instructions below. Thank you!

I have attached the two files you requested.

When I reopened Firefox just now, I was still redirected to nationzoom, however. So I'd love your fix when you have time!

Also, which of these many spyware programs I now have on my desktop do you recommend that I keep?

    Best,
    Sue

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. (Except please use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall) So do the below to save bookmarks:

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • C:\users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

    Any better?

Kestrel 13!, you are a genius!

    It's all working! Thank you.:)

You've proven yourself an expert, so I'd love your opinion.....

I'm using AVG as my go-to anti virus program. One last question: which of the programs should I run regularly to guard against malware? There are many of them on my desktop now!

Roguekiller, HitMan, Malwarebytes, Kaspersky TDSSkiller, MGtools? There is a lot of information out there and it's difficult to know.

    What is your advice?

    Thank you!

    Sue

PS May I dump the logs on my desktop?

    Hi Sue. :)

I'm glad everything has straightened out now and that your machine is functional once more. My final steps should cover most of your questions about what programs to keep. (Step 7)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi Kestrel13!
Unfortunately, I could not complete step 2 and re enable my software w Defogger. It says 'error unable to open file.'

I do apologize about bothering you, but what should I do?

    Thank you,

    Sue

Well, I think I'm in trouble. I went back to READ ME first, step four. It said to redownload defogger. I did on the bleeping computer site and it was immediately clear that I was not downloading defogger. Too late. I am full up with malware again. I'm feeling a bit low about it.

My laptop won't even connect to the internet. It says 'firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.'

    What shall I do?

    Sue

PS...Internet explorer has been wiped off the laptop.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear you are reinfected. :( I wonder what happened?

I have moved your post containing logs to a new thread in Malware removal forum as I did not want this one getting too crowded. ;)
