Redirect Virus

    Hi. While following the instructions to clear the redirect virus, after following steps 1,2 & 3 my computer seems to be connecting to the internet without a problem. However, I lost my sound. Not being sure this problem has anything to do with the former, I continued to the next steps. After running TDSS Fix Tool 2.1.3 the following message appeared "Backdoor.Tidserv has not been found on your computer.

    Please know that in my control panel under "sounds & audio devices" the general tab shows "no audio device" appears. In the "system" icon under the hardware tab, I uninstalled and reinstalled my driver (IDT High Definition Audio Codec) as directed. It appears that this driver along with all other devices listed is working correctly but still no sound.

    Any assistance provided is appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply but I'm not sure I don't know what logs you are referring to. If you wanted the results of the scan done by TDSS Fix Tool then I would have to run the scan again.

    Tim, I completed all steps up to Step 4 using TDDS Fixer. This is where I ran into the problem. Nancy

    Do as much as you can and attach the logs you can get. I can't help you until I can see some logs.

    Tim, Please know that I am fairly computer literate but when it comes to the "behind the scenes" not so much. I honestly don't know what you mean by "logs" nor do I know how to attach them. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Also, I have tried to search help for an answer without succes.

    Tim...I found the instructions on how to attach a log or file. The pics on this link are not viewable & since I have no sound (the reason I need your help), I went to another computer to hear the steps needed to attach the log resulted from the FixTDSS scan.
    I went to my C Drive...I have no "MajorGeek Tool" or "Highjack" file to open. I came back to the Major Geek site to look for Major Geek Toos to download....of course, no such luck. PLEASE HELP. Nancy

    I have completed all the functions in post #6.

    The logs are attached. Hopefully this has all been done correctly.

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT
    ). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once
    you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.


    Now tell me what issues remain.

    Tim,

    I received a success message after adding the file to my registry.

    I still have no sound....In the control panel under "sounds & audio devices" the volume tab shows "no audio device" appears. I checked all the devices listed in the "hardware" tab and they are working correctly but still no sound.

    The redirect virus seems to have been corrected...thank you.

    I suggest you post in the software forum for assistance with your sound issues.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
