    Hey guys I'm cleaning laptop for a friends. They downloaded something and now they get random tabs opening to ad websites. It does this on all browsers, Chrome, Firefox, and internet explorer. When the browsers aren't even open there is advertisement audio will randomly play. Also websites like Norton, McAfee, and Majorgeeks are blocked but websites like youtube and bestbuy are not. I'm doing this from another computer and moving logs files via usb drive.

    Not all anti-malware programs where able to install and run.

    HitmanPro = It opens trys to load but then reads at the bottom "The update is invalid (either corrupt or incomplete)" and closes.

    Malwarbytes Anti-Malware try to install but only gets as far as the language setting and closes with out warning

    AdwCleaner opens but when i try to scan it reads " Database corrupted. Please uninstall AdwCleaner and download it again." I have downloaded it several times. Its not the file.

    I've attached logs of stuff i could run.

    Are you deliberately set up to use a proxy? If not then follow the below steps....

    Please download the latest version of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

    Note: Make sure you download the correct version for your PC. Only the correct version will work.
    • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
    • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:8877;https=127.0.0.1:8877
    • O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
    • O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    Download Fixlist.txt

    Save fixlist.txt on your Desktop. Make sure you save it as a txt file.

    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your Desktop.
    • Now I want you to disconnect your PC connection to the internet by unplugging the cable ( if it is wireless then temporarily shutdown the wireless network ).
    • Run FRST64.exe by right clicking on it and selecting Run As Adminstrator
    • Click the Fix button just once and wait.
    • Your computer should reboot after the fix runs.
    • Reconnect your internet connection after reboot so you can come back here to continue.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    • Fixlog.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    Also at this point, I want to double check the status of things by having you run another scan with FRST like in my last message and attach the new FRST.txt and Addition.txt logs.

    Now run another scan with RogueKiller please (just a scan) and upload fresh log.

      • Explain how things are running.

    Re run Hitman Pro, activate the free trial, and have it remove these:

    Download and run OTM.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    Code:
    :Files
    C:\Program Files\Sound+
    C:\Program Files (x86)\unkempt

    :reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Wow6432Node\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\Run]
    "Sound+"=-
    "cutoauto"=-
    "interpee"=-
    "autoauto"=-
    "sun20"=-

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into a text file to ATTACH into your next reply.

    NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

      • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.

      • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
