Reformating/reprogramming friends pc, need help plz

Ok. So I, myself usually just pop in a recovery cd when I need to reformat my pc.

I thought I could use this method on my friends pc, but yeah. Here's the catch, her pc does NOT come with such a cd and mine does NOT work in it.

So I was wondering what would I need to do to reformat this pc. They are not worried about backing up any files or anything like that. All they want is a fresh pc that works properly.

Some things to know about the pc is its about 10 years old, I know I told them to just go buy a new one, but it's not an option right now. If anyone is willing to take the time to walk me through what I would need to let them know in order to do this and what I would need to download, and burn to cd to help with this process, that would be greatly appreciated

 

you could try GParted, it's for linux partitions but it should also be able to wipe your hard drive clean.

download liveCD ISO image (to burn to a CD): http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=115843&package_id=271779

with bootable CD images, you have to download a program like this one to burn it.
