reformatting problems

    Hi
    I'm trying to reformat a buddies hard drive, it's an older Dell PC with Windows 98, I've created and gone through the other steps, but whenever I type in format c, I get the error message "CDR101: Not ready reading drive E: Abort, Retry, Fail? I've looked everywhere but cannot seem to find a solution for this problem, so any insight would be much appreciated, thank you in advance...
