Reformatting Problems...

If I was to reformat my Primary hard drive, and then install Windows on the Primary hard drive. Then install all the programs on the Secondary hard drive, that would make my computer run faster, correct? And i wanted to know if it would work.

Yes it would work.
No I don't see any speed advantage.

Usualy what you gain with having windows on it's own partition,
is that if you had problems you could reinstall windows without losing everything.

Example: One 80GB hard drive. Primary partition C: 5GB , Second partition D: 75GB.
Install windows on C:, Install everything else and store all your stuff on D:.

Windows gets corrupted, totally screwed you have to reinstall.
Boot to install CD and choose to format C: and install windows on same.
Bingo clean fresh install and all your saved stuff is still there on D:.

The second hard drive is good for backups in the event of a hard drive failure,
or just more storage, or some small increase in speed on a low RAM system if you put your page/swap file on it.

Only problem is that the files in the other partiton will no longer be associated in the new registry so you will have a ton of issues.

It's OK to use it for storage but if you format you will need to wipe the files (programs loaded) off of the other partition.

First a question. What is the time limit on this site for editing? this has got me twice already.

The only issue should be that you would need to run the installers for the apps installed on D: in my scenario to recreate the registry associations.

Think the edit time is only a few minutes. I've been caught too.

And yes to get the programs working properly you would have to install them again.
