Okay, so ive just re-installed XP, i find that for some reason, i cant boot with my nice AGP GeForce4 Ti... so i take it out... i can boot with intergrated graphics fine it seems.

I clean the contacts... notice some dust bunnies in the heat sink.... a lot of dust bunnies..... so i clean them out.

Then i put it back in, and it boots. Hooray!

    But not so hooray.

After its got past the "loading windows xp home" screen, it will start trying to send to my monitor at 90Hz.... which is odd because that wasnt listed in the refresh rate list....

How can i reset the refresh rates, hell even uninstall the drivers... without being able to see... or on an intergrated graphics card.... that ISNT the one i want to uninstall.

    Specs:
    Windows XP Home
    Nikimi 30GB IDE Drive
    2 CD drives (generic)
    GeForce4 ti 4200
    SiS intergrated graphics.....
    256MB Ram.

    TIA :)

Well, in Win2k (and XP AFAIK) you can press F8 while the OS boots (after POST before GUI). [Well, I bet you know about the F8 thing... :).] You should be able to pick "VGA Mode", which will boot to the default VGA display driver at 640x480x256.

Alternately, you can boot to Safe Mode (also F8) with the Integrated video. Now you can browse to Device manager and delete the nVidia card. That's something to remember. In Safe Mode, Windows will display every device ever installed, not just the ones installed and running. Next time you boot with the nVidia card, Windows will display the "Found New Hardware" wizard. Beware! This doesn't delete the drivers, just the installed device.

Okay so ive uninstalled the driver, now when i boot up i should get running the default "what he hell is this" windows driver, from which i should be able to install the UPDATED nVidia drivers.... and thus the refresh rate is reset :)

    ty :D

I'm not sure if you know or not, but Major Geeks has a refresh rate fix out that fixes a known bug in Windows XP with Nvidia video card adapters. However, it also says it's a discontinued project and shouldn't be used with video card drivers newer than Sept. 2002. But I just thought you'd like to know what was causing the problem.

    Beware the Microsoft Update Drivers!!!!

They borked my TI4200 until I installed the nVidia reference drivers over it.

    lol @ chicken

And I can vouche for usasma's comment. Microsoft's drivers for Nvidia cards suck. I get 'em straight from the vendor.
