Very tempted to get one of these in one flavor or another. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15 I look at my gun collection, and I don't have a semi auto in the lot. Must fix that. Want one in the .308 caliber, but the .223 ammo is SO much cheaper...

I just might stimulate the economy a bit Sunday. :-D

Stimulate away, Fred!:-D Nice piece...;) Either one .308 or .223 would be good. That can really punch some holes in a paper plate!:-D Scope included??? That should be a lot of fun at the range, too.

Yes, as long as you like it, you realy should have at least one in your collection. Enjoy! :)

No scope included. :( But the ammo for the .223 is so much cheaper, I am leaning towards that. Will have to see what the local prices are vs a FFL shipment.

I would be leaning towards the .308 if thinking about duo purposing to include game hunting and longer range, Fred.

I think I asked before, don't remember, if you have a gun safe? Wouldn't want to loose your collection.

Hey, Fred, you wouldn't need a FFL, just find a gun shop close by and have them order it for you to them, and pick it up there. Most will do it, because they already have the FFL, and you're going to pay shipping anyway. Call the local gun shops, and ask. Doesn't cost ya anything to ask. :)

No gun safe yet, but most have trigger locks, am looking into building a redneck box to store them in.

Yes TeeCee, most shops will accept shipments for around $20, but I am leary of buying one without handling it. I played with one at the shop, just did not feel right. The Smith & Wesson, I like that one. In fact, it followed me home. :-D You can buy different caliber upper sections to have different calibers. This thing is sweet, too bad I have to wait until payday to afford enough bullets to actually shoot it. :cry

Love this thing, field strips fast and easy, already got it cleaned up and ready to go. Smith & Wesson M&P 15 5.56 x 45mm... Will shoot .223 as well. Might look into a .308 upper later on, ammo is just too expensive for it.

Sigh, I should have known better than to look in here. I was expecting to see a Fermi purchase here, not some military type armament that has no other purpose than hunt rabbits or squirrels, if there's anything left to eat of them!:p;):-D

WTF is a Fermi? Can I use one as a target? :-D And no Augie, this is not a rabbit or squirrel gun, if you want meat. Would be marginal on whitetail deer, generally used for target shooting, and killing varmints. Not very smart or safe to be shooting rifles up in the air Augie... ;)

Ahh, Augie, if you ever make it down south, I will have to take you to the range and introduce you to the joys of shooting 30 rounds with a gun that does not kick, as fast as you can pull the trigger. :drool

You can shoot this thing very fast, and group very accurately. Hmm, if I can get a doctor to prescribe shooting as therapy, can I get a tax write off for ammo? :-D

Actually .223 is not too bad for white-tail, provided you hit the kill zones. But it's an open plains round, not for wooded areas. (Too easily deflected.)

.308 too light for you? They now have a single shot .50 upper for the AR-15 receiver. Now that's stopping power.

  16. Fred_G

Ahh, what debt? I drive an 18 year old truck because I am cheap, but love toys. :-D

Look into the GTX260, nice card, much smaller price.

.50 would be fun, but not cheap to shoot.;) Plus, the indoor range won't let you shoot .50's. :(

I have been seriously thinking of buying an AR-15 or clone. I want to build a "tacticool" 6.8mm SPC rifle.

Although for the amount I would end up spending, I should just go out and buy an H&K 417 or the like and ammo would be far easier to find.

I still haven't shot my new rifle yet Fred. Maybe I should turn in my man card.

You people are getting me fired up about going and asking for my gun back, they had no business taking it to begin with. It might have been one of the ones that turned up in LA. If some uses it in a crime it's no doubt still registered to me. JERKS!

Hi Fred, that is a nice piece. I like the fact it breaks down easy, that makes for cleaning it much more easy...

Well, you can do one or the other, do you have one gun shop that you prefer over the rest? Might work to your advantage, to check with them. I think the $20 is worth it myself.

@ Darlene, who took your gun? Here in Mi., if it is used in a crime, the Reg. owner is legally responsible. How do I know that:confused That is what I was told when I bought my last gun. :guns I don't have a safe either. But I do keep a few loaded, just in case:-D:-D

Hey Burning, what all tacticool stuff are you wanting to put on it? I am thinking about a for end with a rail so I can mount a light. And maybe a grenade launcher... :-D

TeeCee, I buy a lot on the interweb, but sometimes it is best to support your local business. Really like to handle a gun before buying it, unless it is one I have shot before. Another Ar-15 clone was $200 cheaper, but I hated the sights, and the balance was awkward to me. I would have regretted buying that one.

Got a couple of hundred rounds en route from my ammo place in Texas... Really impressed with the quality of this gun, Smith & Wesson did a nice job.

Hi Fred, yup, good to keep some business in the area, might need them sometime. I do know what you mean, too. Gotta have the right feel, for sure. S & W has made some real nice pieces.. I have a friend who has a few of them, mostly handguns:)

Me, I am just partial to my 30/30. It handles great, and I am comfortable handling it. Not afraid of it, I can hit whatever I put those cross-hairs on. Doesn't kick, either!:-D

Congrats on the ammo. I always keep a fresh supply too ;)

    flip up emergency iron sights
    Picatinny rail upper receiver.

I love the .50 barratt rifle fred, believe it or not even though we have strict gun control you can purchase and own one over here, the hard part is finding a safe place you can use one.

I like the AS .50 aswell due to it having a much faster fire rate than the barratt but it isn't any where near as cool looking as the barratt,if I could own one sniper rifle it would be a barratt but not the .50 version, they have a .416 version that can make a cold bore kill at over a mile due to the round staying super sonic for most of the flight.

That guns pretty funny, reminds me of nordburgs gun in naken gun.:-D

  32. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Yeah, from what I understand Rikky, you can buy them, but have to only use them at a club, or range. Can't shoot the .50 at my indoor range, not sure about the public one. LOL, we have a gubment sponsored outdoor gun range. :-D Actually the range is used for law enforcement training, and part of it is open to the public for a fee. They do pretty well, with all the hunters and sport shooters we have around here.

  33. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Its similar over here the only difference is you have to have somewhere to shoot it before you can apply for an ownership license which unlike over there you need to own any gun the obvious logic being you don't need .50 if you have an apartment in the middle of the city.

$10,000/£7500 I believe for the mag version,I know the single shot version is much cheaper though, but you do get 18.5lbs of barrel :drool

I just checked how much .50 ammo is over and its pretty cheap I thought it would be much more expensive, £2.65 per round,I think that's reasonable for the size of round your getting £6.00 each for tracers.

Ammo prices over here for those interested, current exchange rate is $1.5 per £1 -

i know this thread has mostly to do with long-arms, but my most recent purchase needs some gushing over :-D i just bought a pair of 1911a1 .45ACPs and goodness did i get em cheap. not american made :-o(who can afford american 1911s anymore?) but these are built on the old Colt specs, i can swap parts on any mil spec 1911a1 and they feel wonderful in hand. ;)

i've got a large collection of long-arms too, and i gotta say i prefer hunting rifles over tactical. way i was brought up, its best to reach out and touch something from far away, if it gets closer use a scatter-gun, any closer go side-arm :major

The only difference between the two i bought was that they have different color grips, one is much lighter than the one pictured. :-D:-D i love em. my long arms consist of Remington 12 gauge pump, with optional pistol grip, and a lever action .35. its a bit bigger than a 30-30, with the same range and more stopping power. i also have an old m1 .30 carbine, its my baby. + lots more rifles and pistols lol

speaking of shotguns, my preferred load out is buck (000) slug (1oz) alternating in the eight round pump i have, but i've been told that at short distances, as in 6 to 15 feet birdshot (no.7) will make more of a mess outta a piece of plywood. makes me wanna test it and if so, keep a secondary load out for home defense.

just got back from breaking in the twins. could only afford 50 rounds split between the two. only had one jam, it was a feed error, on the very last round. everything i've read online says that rock islands are incredibly tight from the factory and these are no exception, so thats what i'm gonna attribute the jam to.

also put 50 rounds through my pocket .38, she still shoots a sweet as momma's tea. put 12 through the 44 mag, my buddy fired twice and couldn't handle the recoil or the report (we were both idiots and forgot ear protection) lol. had a blast. goodness i'd forgotten how fun it was to target shoot. next time i go i'm gonna break out the long arms. after i get home tonight it'll be a thorough cleaning and a stint at the reloading bench :-D:cool:major
