I'm thinking about getting a refurbished Dell Inspiron as a work computer (I work from home and have to supply my own computer). Unfortunately, the work software and online platform that I'm using is not compatible with Vista, so I need to have XP Professional, and that's why I'm looking at the Inspiron.

I am looking for opinions on refurbished Dells. Has anyone bought one of these? The model I'm looking at is about $180 cheaper refurbished than new.

I'd appreciate hearing about anyone else's experience with a refurbished computer.

    Hi

Not bought refurb before, but should be no different to a brand new one if from Dell themsleves, so should have some sort of warranty included, but as for XP then do a bit of homework first on the model of Dell Inspiron you're looking at and make sure it has XP drivers available and if not direct from Dell then search for users who have downgraded that model to XP and grab the drivers they used.

Woudl also ask Dell if they will supply it pre-loaded with XP, worth an ask.

refirbished computers have a better warranty than new ones in most cases so try it out

We have a Dell reseller in our area. I've purchased one Dell refurb desktop and been pleased with it. My friends will be purchasing their 3rd refurbed Dell in July or August, also desktops, so obviously they've been pleased.

Nothing at all wrong with a refurb. All 3 of my machines are refurbs and run as well as a new one would.
May have (possibly) a few small scratchs or minor scuffing, but service wise should be more than adequate for most purposes.
