Thanks to all that are responsible for such an excellent forum!
After my 49th birthday and being in my 10th tear of owning a pc.....it's about time I learned about these things. My current pc is 14 months old and in fairly good shape but to further my education and clean up my machine I am here to learn.

I am working my way through the "Read and Run Me First post.
I am a novice to much of this and struggling to follow the instructions to the letter. So far I think I am good up to step 6A. I am not able to connect to the internet in Safe Mode. I am using cable connection but not sure where to choose "Safe Mode with Networking Support". Is this an option I am missing when booting up in Safe mode? I am hoping I can continue with step 6A in safe mode.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks garstar

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Since you did not specify what Windows OS you have, it is difficult to answer. Also even if you have one of the OS's that support this, your hardware needs to support it too. If you are on dial-up, you definitely cannot do it in safe mode.

    Thank you for the reply.
Sorry for the lack of information.

    My OS is Windows XP
    Media Center Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

I connect to the internet with broadband cable - Comcast

As far as hardware ......... not sure what we are looking for.

So far I did run Bitefinder in Normal mode and it came up clean.

Still hoping to connect to internet in safe mode if possible.

It could just be that your network interface card does not support this.

Just do the online scans in Normal Boot mode. All the other steps can be done in safe mode because you don't need a network connection for them and it is better to be offline anyway that is why one of the steps indicates to unplug your cable anyway.
