My dad has this installed on his computer. He's not sure how it got there, as he did not purposefully download it. He says that he'll walk into the room and he'll find that this program has done a scan and has said there are hundreds of errors. He hasn't allowed the program to 'fix' anything, and I urged him not to do so. I warned him that this may be one of those rogue programs, and so far my findings seem to verify this.

Can someone tell me how he can safely get this program off his computer? He is running Windows XP on his computer, I believe.

    Thanks!

It's a rouge all right. A borderline one. Just remove it from Add/remove programs to begin with. Make sure it's shut down first. Use Ctrl+Alt+Del and check the lists in Task Manager. You can shut it down from there if it's still running. Click it's name on the list so that it gets blue - then right click and terminate the process via the little menu.

Ignore the warnings that the uninstall probably will give you. It's just Regcure talking.

The company is trying to fight back, leave it's rouge past and get it's acts together. They say. Then how come these things are happening?

Thanks, Cordialis. I'll pass the information on to my Dad. Stuff like this annoys me, software companies shouldn't do stuff like that. From what I've read, this software tells people they've got all these problems and then tries to charge them $29 to fix it. My Dad didn't intentionally install this. He doesn't even know how it got there in the first place. Reminds me of the time when I worked at our local library and one of the customers got hijacked in the middle of an internet browsing session and the next thing you know, Stopsign antivirus was downloading and installing itself and then claiming there were all these viruses...which Panda did not find at all. I consulted a computer help forum and cleaned Stopsign out of that computer. That's just dirty pool.

    Hello Amethyst_08

My name is Laura and I am the Forum Liaison for Paretologic, the creators of RegCure.

We would like to obtain further information from you regarding the download of RegCure on your father's computer. No Paretologic program automatically downloads to our end-user's computer. We do offer a free scan to determine if your computer is at risk and/or to evaluate the efficacy of our detection system. The product must be interactively downloaded to the end-user's computer in order to carry out the scan. Is it possible that your father may have availed himself of the free download?

I would like to refute the fact that RegCure is a rogue application. No Paretologic product contains adware or malware programming as confirmed by download sites. Paretologic is a member in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and has won numerous industry awards for it's products and services. Paretologic is a legitimate company with 10 products and 115 staff members including a highly skilled, responsive in-house customer support team.

For more information on Paretologic, please visit http://www.paretologic.com/company/

We look forward to hearing back from you.

    Kindest Regards
    Laura

    Hi Laura,

I don't think my father knows how Regcure got on his computer. Is it ever included with something else as part of a download update? You know, the way OpenOffice is with Java updates or the Safari browser with Quicktime updates? (Guess what? He has the Safari browser, too, which he also didn't really want.) I've had software that included toolbars or Picassa, for example, and if memory serves me correctly, that sometimes involves removing a checkmark so that you DON'T install the extra item rather than adding a checkmark so you do. If this is the case, he may have obtained Regcure that way without intending to do so, if he didn't closely read prior to installing something.

I advised him to use the uninstall feature available through Start-Programs-Regcure if he wanted to remove it. He did so, and the program uninstalled cleanly. I also advised him that some people do intentionally download and install the software, that as far as I could see, there would be some sort of subscription fee, and that some people were happy with the program and some were not.
