Hello people, I have just registered as I have often looked into the site and it would appear to be very helpful to those who have registered - hence my decision today.

My question, I suppose, is a relatively broad one, so please bear with me.

I run Win XP Pro SP 1 as I have decided a long time ago, not to install SP2.
My system recently has been slower and I am pretty sure it is because of some stuff in the Registry over time, which should not be there, however, I know so little about what to remove or what to keep, therefore, I never interfere with the Registry - that's point one.

Point Two - is that I did a system utilities check the oither day, and there are many processes running at start up - my problem is the processes named, really mean nothing to me, I have no idea which should be stopped and which should not.

Is there an easy way for me to be sure of this. Also, is there a good way for me to know what should and should not be removed from my Registry?

Sorry folks, I know this is a lot to ask right now. Any input from you all, would help me.

I should perhaps add, that I run on a daily basis, and sometimes twice, AVG Free with Firewall. SpyWareBlaster and SpySweeper running in the background. I also have Spybot S & D and PestPatrol. I think a terrific scan is also Trend Micro's Housecall, which I tend to run once or twice a week!
