Registry cleaner: Scares me!

    Every so often, I see advice here to do something with the Registry, but there's always a warning about doing something with the Registry. I did a search and found the thread started by Robo on 7/8/03 entitled JV16Reg cleaner help. That kinda scared me. What should a non-Geek with Win98 1st Edition do--if anything--to keep the Registry as clean as possible without screwing up everything?

    Don't manually clean the registry. Get a program that does it for you and you should be fine. :)

    I also have a computer running Windows 98 and I clean the registry often. I have had no problems. :)

    To be honest Regcleaner and JV16 powertools are pretty safe to use as they backup what you delete so if at a later stage you find you need those regisrty enteries you can replace them from the backup.

    But after a few days or so if nothing is wrong you can delete the backups.

    Those are the two I use and no problems. I also use Registry Crawler, but that is a manual cleaner and not for the feint of heart.

    RegCleaner and JV16 powertools are two of the most useful utilities you'll ever download. Besdies the fact that they are free, both are a great way to keep your registry and OS clean.
