Registry Permissions

I know I can get the Real answer here.

I have often screwed around with my XP Registry, and have had no problem modifying it. But recently, I bought a new HP All-In-One printer and their provided app software would not install. HP Tech Support says the registry is not allowing sufficient permissions. However, I am logged on as a user with Administrator rights.

What's the Deal? Are there levels of rights I am unaware of? Some sort of Uber-administrator that can do things no other can? I see the "permissions" tab in regedit, but it amways says I am allowed full read/write rights/

Ask them to tell you what "key" does not have specific permission. If they say a hive, such as hkey_local_machine, etc, then they are giving you a line of bullcrap.

If they can tell you what key it is, then you can right click the key in regedit and change the permissions.

Your best bet would be to post the error and problem you are having.

 

DukOfURL, I have encountered this before with HP all-in-ones, often your Anti-virus program is interfering with installation of the all-in-one drivers. Exit your AV program completely, don't just disable it. Then install the drivers.

 

I will try exiting the AV and installing the software again. If it fails again, I will also actually record the info on what failed instead of just howling and smiting the desk (it takes about an hour on my system to install to the point of failure).
