Registry Scans

    Greetings to one and all,

    I'm here in the hopes of finding a registry scanner that does what it says it will AND won't remove anything it shouldn't.
    Doesn't necessarily have to be "freeware" as I'm willing to pay for a top notch application that's semi-easy to use.
    Any and all recommendations appreciated... in fact the more the merrier.

    Registry Mechanic (PC Tools) is pretty good. Ran it 2 days ago and no problems so far. I too was a little leary of it (and software like it) making mistakes.

    ZepZoSoRox, there isn't a registry cleaner made, free or pay, that hasn't caused grief to at least one person. If you are looking at a 100% guarantee, then you aren't going to find it.
    CCleaner has worked for me flawlessly on 4 computers but it has been a problem for other people.
    Any one you try, do not try to clean everything at once if you have never cleaned your registry. Do a small part and look over every file that is checked. If you aren't sure, uncheck it and let it remain in the registry. It's better to have a bit of bloat in the registry than to remove one item that is needed!
    Always say YES when it asks if you want to back up the registry before it is cleaned. If a program doesn't offer a choice to backup the registry before it cleans, remove that program from your computer.
    I've heard at least one program said it would back up then didn't. So with that in mind, create a restore point before you try a program that hasn't been mentioned just in case it is one that doesn't back up the registry.
