Thank you, Major Geeks, for this wonderful utility. I searched a long time to find it. It's worked great for weeks.

Now, however, when I try to use it, it functions to the point where it's supposed to slap down a list of the computer's errors. It says "Completed," but it does not list the errors, and, of course, since they're not listed, it doesn't offer to "Select" or to fix the selected items. (BTW, it lists sometimes 363 and sometimes over 500. This is the most errors I've had at one sitting. Could the large volume of errors have anything to do with its not working?)

When it first occurred (yesterday), it gave me the path to the file it could not find. I ignored it, hoping that hoping would do the trick. Now it doesn't tell me which file is missing. If it did, I could do a search for it to see if it accidentally got into the wrong place.

I have re-downloaded several times and the new .exe file doesn't change things. Any suggestions?

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Did you uninstall it completely first before reinstalling it?

I'm sure I did, but to make doubly sure, after getting your response, I went in and completely uninstalled it. In attempting to re-install, I got this message: "C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\regscrubxpsetup_3.2.exe is not a valid win32 application." Therefore, it will not now allow me to re-install.

I will drag and drop the .exe file into MyDownloadZone and see if I can re-install from there, but I'm guessing I won't be able to do it.

I was able to re-install RegScrubXP from My Download Zone. But even after completely uninstalling, when I re-installed I got this message: "The directory: C:\Program Files\RegScrubXP" already exists. Would you like to install to that directory anyway?" I answered Yes.

Everything seems to work fine on the new install--the Help link, all the other links--except that it won't finalize the registry check. It did catch far more errors than I've ever experienced before: 416, then it stopped. It has gone up to over 500 before (during this exercise). Is it possible it exceeds RegScrubXP's capacity?

I have been laboring over installing some accounting freeware and wonder if in the process of installing and moving files around that the registry error count went sky high.

This is why I said make sure you COMPLETELY remove it first before reinstalling it.

If it says the directory already exists when you are installing it, then you haven't completely uninstalled it.

Uninstall it, then do a search and manually delete any left over files and folders.

Then install it, but this time, select a different directory, like C:\Regscrub for example.
