    hi all,

just got off the phone to my mother in law as shes having problems,

she was trying to instal a programme, i think it was bearshare, it downloads and everything fine but halfway through the instalation and after clicking user agreement etc she ends up getting an error message about REGSVR32.

i cant give any more details on this as i cant see what shes doing..

all i know is shes running windows ME and thats about it..

can she download the missing file (if thats what is the case, its missing) and just install it.. i have looked on the net and found one so i downloaded it to my pc but i dontwant to try and instal it on mine as i am running XP, anyway i downloaded it and unzipped it to have a look and it looks a bit like a windows internet explorer icon and has html properties..

i dont know what this file is or how to instal it,

please advise and also i need to know what to do with it ... and at the same time pass this information over the phone to a 50 year old woman..lol

    thanks in advance.

Does she really want to install Bearshare? I believe it installs some adware with it, and P2P is always risky.

The error she's getting may be coming from whatever anti-spy or anti-virus program she's running, letting her know that Bearshare is trying to install some crud.

First of all, bearshare is a known baddie so her first step should be to head over to our malware forum and follow all the steps in our Sticky: READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support to make sure her computer is cleaned out.

Second. As a grandmother of 7, while not yet having reached the age of 50, I assume your comment about a woman of this age was simply a typo;) and you really MEANT to say a woman who is not computer literate correct?:D

i am not to argue with my mother in law, i just do as i am told/asked..

i did mention this but she says she wants it to get some of these 'spoof' songs.. you know 'britney spears - oops i farted again' etc etc

so all i am trying to do is help her.. and yes i will probably end up having to help her again when her system stops working altogether!

yes thats what i meant.. 'not computer literate' or 'phone literate' or 'son in law literate'..

You can find most of these spoof songs freely available without having to install a nasty program to get them. Typing "spoof song into google" came up with mega hits. This would be a safer route to go than using a known malicious program and the search could be refined further by entering key words from the songs she wants.

She should still make sure the computer is appropriately protected by following chaslangs Sticky: How to Protect yourself from malware! because there are so many malicious sites out there. Additionally, make sure that all files downloaded are scanned with updated AV software before running them.
