In a recent thread ("IE5.5 went haywire") I got some help fixing a virus/trojan. One residual effect remains. My input devices (mouse, keyboard, scroll wheel) are slow to varying degrees while online. Offline they work normally.
Despite the help and suggestions MG's experts offered, we were unable to fix this problem. Should I attempt to reinstall my browser? Will a fresh install simply overwrite the old files and program?
Formatting the HDD and reinstalling the OS is a last resort I'm not willing to do yet.
    Thanks for the help!
    BTW: Pentium(r) 233Mhz, 64Mb RAM, Win95, broadband cable access, IE5.5

see if upgrading IE will fix it. It usually replaces all of the current IE files. I'm pretty sure that you could at least upgrade to IE6.

Thanks for the response, mr_flea. What I've seen indicates IE6.x is not supported by Win95. I have the installation program with IE5.5 on my hard drive. Unless I can figure out how to repair the problems I'm having, I was just gonna re-install it. Can I assume the old installation will be overwritten?

    See how this goes>

Open the control panel/add remove. Click on IE & go to remove it. You will not be able to do so. Instead a box will pop up asking what you want to do. Choose the repair option.

Tried that a couple times awhile back. Thanks anyway HD. Check out the original thread mentioned above for some history on this little virus episode.

Hi I am having the same problem Comcast says that the freezing up of the fan appears to be a browser problem, someone mention IE6 should be int the add/remove section so I went to look and it wasn't! Neither was OE. Is this right? I am following Microsoft's instructions to do this but came here for some "real life" advice, that clicking to repair sure sounded good, I got my Dell with the soft ware and all I have is the mirror image CD and other softwar like works and Roxio stuff like that about 12 cd, but nothing to reinstall IE6. Can I please ask for a little help? thank yas BadDracula:eek:
