working on an Acer aspire 5515 of my Daughters. It origanally had windows vista basic. It was stuck in a update not config. loop. I took it to local shop where they updated to windows 7 Ran fine for a week and now has issues. I would have preferred a clean install of windows 7. It is running now but I have no icon or network connection, also no audio. I am thinking I should fdsk and just do a clean install. system will not let me format a partison. I'm on need of help and advise. I know enough to get me introuble.

When they installed 7, did you get a copy of it from them on disk? You're going to need it to re-install as well as it will give you the choice to format it. Don't forget to backup any data you have stored on the drive first!

yes I have the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade disks one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit.
it is running 32bit only thing I wanted to save was some pics and i have them on a disk now.

Ok, then all you need to do is boot up from your CD drive to start a fresh install, however it will probably ask you for your Vista CD since it's an upgrade, so make sure you have it on hand as well.

here is where the problems start! first I used f2 to get to bios setup utility, second went to boot, third moved usb cd/dvd rom to the top. f10 to save and exit. it continued with boot up,inserted windows 7 disk in drive, shut down, removed power cord, removed battery. waited a minute, put battery back in, pluged in, started, dvd drive does run but starts norrally. simply can't seem to get it to boot from disk. frustrating, thinking of running something like kill disk but afraid I don't have everything to bring it back. I have no vista disk it did not come with it.

Then I'd wait before doing this, I've only done complete installs with 7 so far & not done any upgrade versions, I'm sure someone else will chime in on this. As far as your unplugging it & removing the battery, that is completely unnecessary to boot from CD, it also might be why you can't.

(All other upgrade versions have always asked for the older windows version to verify that it was a true upgrade to my knowledge)

Isn't the DVD burner internal on an Aspire 5515? I don't understand the USB part of this.

If you don't see the internal DVD in the list of bootup devices, perhaps it is not working and would explain why the win 7 disk will not boot.
