Sorry to post about this again. My friend wants me to format his computers hard drive and install ME using the recovery disk that came with his comp. I tried to hit F8 at startup to go to the command prompt to format the hard drive, but the command prompt option doesn't exist. I put in the recovery CD and it booted to the CD and it says "Do you want to restore?" I hit yes, and in about 10 minutes the process was over and everything was wiped off the computer, and windows looked reinstalled. Just like a format and reinstall.

Did this process actually format the hard drive? I ask because the whole process was so fast about 10 minutes. This is an old computer.

    Thanks for reading

Thats a recovery CD and it will have formatted the hard drive and then copied the image the manufacturer made of the hard drive when the computer was shipped. Basically back to day 1, with all the silly default programs and manufacturers desktops and crap like that

So yes, it did re-install windows.
