Reinstalling XP gives black screen

When I bought my laptop it did not come with the Windows XP CD's, so I had to create my own. I used the site:
    http://www.howtohaven.com/system/createwindowssetupdisk.shtml

And now when I try to re-install XP, when I restart and it says press any key to load from CD, I press a key and it comes up with a black screen and doesn't seem to do anything.

The only thing that may be wrong with my CD is that w2ksect.bin I burned onto the CD, not just the C:. Is that what is wrong, or could it be a hardware issue?

I want to install XP rather than Ubuntu (Linux) because I'm not sure my Wireless USB would be compatible with Linux and I'm not too computer savvy enough.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much,

    Ryan

Easiest way to eliminate hardware as being the problem is to put the CD in another computer and see if that computer boots from it. I would suspect the bin file that you mentioned as being the cause of your problem, as it should have been inside the folder for the CD contents that you created on C: drive.

    Hope this helps!:)

Which laptop have you got ?
Preinstalled systems have a back up partition to reinstall to factory setup.
    Dell is Ctrl+F11.

If you have the cd based Live linux, you can see it from that.
Ultimate bootcd can also help- have a look in majorgeeks downloads for that.
I have to go for tonite, good luck
