    Happy Turkey Day to all!

Have followed Malware Removal Guide with good success yet there is something I am not able to identify that remains on the system.

Symptoms are evident mainly when browsing with Firefox or IExploder (which I hardly ever use)

CPU gets hogged to the point where browsing becomes impossible for 45 seconds to over 1 minute and then CPU usage drops for 10 or 15 seconds only to spike back up.

Problem can be eliminated by disabling all in msconfig startup and services (except MS svcs)

In addition, a wierd pop-up occurs shortly after boot-up that I have never seen before. Process explorer identifies it as "orrx.exe" which is running under CMD.exe (Windows Command Processor)

*** See JPG attached which shows screen shot of pop-up and process explorer

NOTES: This is a new system with 4 GB ram and dual core processor. I strongly doubt there are any programs running resident that would cause this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I thought I had the problem solved and deleted all the logs

Should I run the procedures again to get new logs?

I'm loosing my patience and considering reloading XPSP2

Running the procedures will be easier than wiping the system and starting all over. :)

OK.. the only problem I still have is web browser freeze with Firefox or iExploder if I launch it. Even while I type in this box, I need to stop after 4 or 5 words to let it catch up. CPU spikes from real low to 50 or 60% during freezes

All AV program scans are clean now. Panda said it found spyware running under IE but it keeps crashing before I can view or save the log

See 3 attached logs - Hijack log in next post

I have really had it with this... I could have reloaded my machine 3x since I began scanning and waiting. I do appreciate all the time everyone puts in on this site. I would like to find the bastard malware or virus rather than giving in and reloading the machine but time is more precious than a bit of ego. I am considering becoming a serial killer and directing my hostility and aggressions towards those who write computer viruses and spyware. Perhaps I could gain superhero status :guns

    Now:
    Use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
    Sunbelt Counterspy

Download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.

    * Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    * Click the X to exit the program

    Next...download IEFix

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Got the first 2 progs uninstalled

Downloaded "HostsXpert.exe" and when I try to run it I get this message:

    ERROR: Cannot create file C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts

Tried it in normal and safe mode w/same result

I researched this error and I have now tried to run HostsXpert under Admin login and with NAV shut down...still no luck

I'm at work now, away from the machine but something else was going on earlier today and I did nothing new since last night when I uninstalled the 2 progs you told me to remove.

I could barely get it to run in normal mode....
System just hung without filling in desktop icons.
I booted in safe mode and ran Spybot S&D with nothing found.

Can I run the ShowNew, GetRunKeys and HJT in safe mode???

    Thanks
    Eric

I got the system up in normal mode, just had to wait a while

    See attached logs

Important note: I now have no internet on this system which I neglected to mention earlier. I was online this morning for a while and then it just quit. Can't launch Lynksys software eith, some kind of script error

I am hard wired through router and cable modem. The odd thing is this: I have another desktop pc with a wireless device in a USB port that also has no internet BUT our laptop with the broken wireless is hardwired also to the router and it has internet.

I'm getting occasional "NTVDM.EXE" errors and another error earlier:
    "Exception EIdSocketError in module SVVHOST.EXE"

Getting real close to suicide or a quart of JD and a long nap

    Reload operating system??

You need to turn off ALL active anti-virus and anti-spyware programs!! Other wise the fixes aren't working.

Please copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.

    * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

You may wish to use a Startup Manager

Your logs look clean. You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including CounterSpy, etc).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
