Allow me to answer that question. Combofix is a very powerful tool and when used without an experienced helper you can render your machine useless. It is a double edged sword basically. So unlike SAS and MBAM we do not reccommend that people use without a helper.

I am trying to follow the instructions in the "How to Protect yourself from malware!" page. I already pay for ESET Antivirus. Can any expert tell me, in the Antispyware section which free real time protection can I run with my antivirus, since most or all of them have antivirus already included? Thanks,

    Hello, Chala

From what I've read about ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4, you already have "real-time" antispyware protection included. So, you should be covered using the freeware versions of SAS & MBAM as "on demand" scanners only.

Ok thanks, dr.n, on another machine however I have Avast and I don't think they have antivirus protection, so which free real time antispyware protection shall I run there? Thanks.

Avast includes antispyware protection. Read the info in the below link:

Hi Chaslang and thank you. I have just two more quick questions. I have both adaware and now Spybot installed. Spybot when installing states that adaware may cause issues, in addition it is not listed on the "How to Protect yourself from malware!" page. I use adaware cause it detects rootkits, should I remove it?*

Second I installed Mbam on another machine without changing the name of the setup file. I want to do it correctly, should I uninstall it or can I just change the setup file where it stands?*

Also on yet another machine I just ran Mbam without saving it, what should I do there? Thanks,

Ad-Aware is just about worthless. Uninstall it. That is why it has not been part of the READ & RUN ME for years now. Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware we had you install are many many many more times useful and effective.

You don't need to change the setup file name unless having a problem installing it due to malware being present. If it is already installed, you don't need the installer anymore either so you can delete it. It can be redownloaded if you ever need it again and that way you would know you are using the most current version.

Huh? Not sure what you mean. Did you mean you ran a scan and did not save a log? If always saves a log anyway in the Application Data folder for Malwarebytes.

Sorry i meant when I was attempting to downloaded Mbam you get the option to save or run or cancel the exe file I ran it instead of saving, but according to your last post as long as it installed it does not matter. Thank you so much Chaslang for your time and expertise

Of course you are allowed to say nice things :-D You just kept quoting huge segments of my text which was not necessary and I must have accidentally scrubbed out your comment. My apologies.
