Reminder files?

Hi -

I'm looking for a program for Windows XP that will pop up a reminder for me before I do certain tasks. Specifically, I sometimes forget to turn on my external hard drive (where I store my music) before I run iTunes, which causes a minor, but annoying, problem. And I sometimes forget to disconnect the drive before I turn my computer off, which causes its own trouble. I'd like to find a tiny little script that, before I tried to do one of those tasks, would pop up a little "Did you remember to..." window.

Either a pointer to such a program, or instructions on how to write one myself, would be greatly appreciated. I have no prior experience with batch files.

(By the way, I know that some people just leave their external drives running all the time. I prefer not to.)

Just kidding here, but the solution to your problem is called a Post-it note which you stick to the monitor.

 

Har har. Any Post-it that's always present just starts to become part of the background after a while, and never ends up reminding me of anything.

Based on things I've heard various people say, it sounds like you can do the thing I'm talking about with a simple script. I'm just clueless how. Any ideas are appreciated.
