Reminder needed: Make XP registry FORGET the last key?

Hi, frenns!

Just setting up a new XP machine, and using the reg a lot to customize it. Can't remember how I fixed the old XP machine's reg so that it always opens to the top. I did it, and it always opens that way, and I don't use a vbs file to do it. My shortcut to the registry just calls regedit.exe. Now I need to fix the reg on the new machine so that it doesn't go back to the last key I edited.

Anybody?

 

In regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Regedit and look for the value LastKey. Double-click it and clear the string. Then right-click the Regedit key (in the lefthand pane) and select Permissions. Set Permissions to Deny for any/all users/groups.

 

I've got nothing in the regedit key except the _SZ_ thing that says there's nothing else there. No values at all. And no Permissions in the right click anywhere.

Mebbe this is my fault for not SAYING that I'm using XP Home.

 

Hi Wisewiz,

If you use START > RUN > REGEDT32.EXE, you should then be able to navigate to and view Last Key and make the necessary adjustments. This offers you a few more options than regedit.
