Hope this is the correct Forum!

My company has set up a remote access system so that we can work from home:D . It was set up using "Real VNC remote control software" - www.realvnc.com. All I was required to do is follow step by step instructions and download a program from the VNC website onto my computer at my home.

I am currently at home and have installed successfully & followed every instruction provided to me for setup. To be able access my 'work computer'(WC) from 'home computer'(HC), first I double-click a desktop item "Citrix Secure Access" that was created through download & installation. This prompts me to enter my provided user name & password, which I did and it connected successfully. Then I open my "VNC Viewer" (which should allow me to view my 'WC''s desktop). It displays a 2nd prompt: "SERVER", where my instructions tell me I should enter in my 'WC' Name, which was also provided to me. However, i get an error message:

"Unable to connect to host: connection refused (10061)".

I coincidentally knew the name of one of my colleagues 'WC' (i watched him set up his remote access at his house yesterday), and at the "SERVER" prompt, when I enter his provided 'WC' name, I am able to access his 'WC'...so yes, it does work, but accessing my colleagues 'WC' does me no good. I'm assuming my 'WC' (host) is not set up correctly somehow. Our IT guy had setup all our computers and network at work, so that installing the VNC program on our 'home computers' is all we had to do.

Our IT guy is out of state and is being less than helpful and won't be able to help for several days. I'd like to assume there is an easy fix (i.e. on my 'work computer', making sure it is able to accept remote connections by checking a box somewhere in the control panel options). However, I am hesitant to go exploring on my work computer and trying different things as my overall understanding of not only networking but computers in general is low, in my opinion.

Can anyone give me any suggestions for not only pinpointing my inability to connect to MY 'work computer' but furthermore myself attempting to fix the problem without accidentally screwing up our work network or my work computer? Not only do I not want to wait for my IT guy, but I'd also like to understand how this remote access works a little more for my own benefit.

If there is any other info. I can provide let me know.

    Thanks! :)

Probably forgot to map a port on the router to your machine. May not be able to correct remotely.

    Thanks for the input.

Actually, I just had to turn off my Windows firewall on my "Work Computer".

    It works fine now:cool

Should this thread be removed now??
