"remote procedure call" WTPh!

Hi there,
Ive just re-installed windows with my boot floppy (xp on partition).
Ive installed my cable modem, but now as i try to do my windows update
I get a message window coming up saying something like..."the system
is being shut down by N AUTHORITY?SYSTEM"
"The system is being shut down because the remote procedure call (RPC)
terminated unexpectantly"
Some times this window comes up after 1 minute sometimes after 5
minutes.
These are my specs,
XP home
P4 1.9
512mb sd 133
Audigy (installed)
Radeon 8500 (not yet installed)
Motorola surfboard cable modem (installed)
The only other things i have installed are the bloatware that
installs automaticly.

I havn't install the audigy yet cuz the system shuts down before i get
a chance.
I had to do this post in notepad first.

This is something probably really simple or SOMEONE really simple,
so help me ....pleeeease!

Adey, the General's spot on, and the thing that you should have done is GET THE UPDATES ON CD FIRST, then re-install while disconnected, then update while disconnected, then install your firewall from CD while disconnected, then install the anti-virus from CD while disconnected, ... AND THEN connect.

The world is too brutal out there nowadays to be connected for even a minute without full updates and full defenses.

 

How do i get them on CD when i try to download to Winupdates the virus
pops up i need those updated to be able to use the virus fix ...
how do i gat the CD

 

hi adey dont worry about the updates for a few minutes just download the removal tool first fix the virus and head straight for windows updates next

you can use the windows catalog to download and save the updates then burn them to disc but even better now Microsoft is giving away a free updates cd all you have to do is register

ill find the link in a min and post it up it was on this forum as couple of days ago

Yeah i never had enough time on the net to download the whole update thing 50 megs?
So i downloaded the specific file via your second suggestion,

sorry another prob now.
I tried to install the KB4545??? file that i need to be able to use the worm remover.The install wizard transfers the files, then a window comes up saying it is inspecting my current configorations then the screen just dissapears and dosent come back.No window asking to restart windows or anything like that.
so basically i cant install that required update needed to use the worm scrubber.Im am screwed no? well i aint givin up yet anyway.

 

cant remember the exact update but you dont have to reboot with all updates so it may well have installed
have you tried using the second removal tool i posted you should be able to run that and knock out the virus

ok ive just tried that download and it works fine just download and run it and then get your windows updates

 

I cant,when i try to download (anything over 10 megs) my computer gets shutdown before the download is finished.
I tried win update again i downloaded the sp1 in 3 seconds??? its insalled
rebooted.checked again and i still need it. goota go wormy is back..

 

when the box comes up, go to start hit run type shutdown -a
now continue with download

K i ran the worm scanner thing first time it said i did have the virus then i
carried on trying 2 download the updates but no luck.
Ive tried that scanner again and now it says that i dont have the virus.
but im still getting those shut down windows when i try to download my windows updates updates.

*Worm scanner says = OK
*Sp1 dosnt install properly (installs but isnt there after reboot)
*other critcal windows updates i cant install cuz of the virus shuting me down before theyve downloaded.
(although i'll use that "shutdown -a " tip posted.
*The ms03-26 file dosnt install properly (one of the critical update files for
the scrubber below)
*The other worm scrubber (not the one with the yellow interface)
says it needs the ms03-26 file.

I geuss i should just order the damn CD.
Suppose that'l cost 50 quid Huh?

Youd never guess what!
When i do the shutdown -a command the download freezes and i cany restart it
till i reboot.I just get the CD.
