Removal of advertisements

I just purchased a new Acer laptop from Best Buy and they wanted me to spend another $39.95 to take off all the added advertisements. They called this "optimizing" and said it would make the laptop 30% faster.
Can I do this myself with your guidance or do i need to let them do it?

Have a look at PC Decrapifier. A bit of a weird name, but it's very effective and competent. And it's free...

If by "advertisements" they mean all the free trials of software that comes pre-installed, then we can probably help you out just as well as they can.

This wasn't intended to discount what Mims was saying--I just know that PC Decrapifier tends to miss some things and doesn't really give you a starting point for replacing the crap you are removing with useful stuff.

 

Don't worry, I'm not taking it personally. I've now bookmarked that blog for future use.
