Many people seem to be going round and round about how to get the 'raccoon' plugin checker form loading with each request for the Firefox browser.

I have been to Mozilla and that is either intentionally or not a briar patch of half baked answers (likely because they don't really want users to know the answer. Some of these threads threaten to quit Ffx over it.

Opera is not bad but all my bookmarks and whatnot are in Firefox and this happens to be one of the older 3.x versions which many prefer. I guess it is an easy target since it is not the current issue.

I've looked at about:config but don't know where to start.

Secondly there was a response to delete the dll called nppdf32.dll which didn't work either.

that's where I am on it.

I'm running FF on 6 windows partitions. (2k, XP and 7).
One 2K computer kept loading a tab with the plugin checker, in addition to the 3 tabs my husband uses as his home pages. Is that what is happening to you?
What version of windows are you running? What version of FF are you running?
The latest as of 19 Jan is FF 18.0.1

    Thanks for answering.

The problem machine (with older Ffx 3.xxx -- I can look it up) is running on XP.
There seems to be something going on with this that is bugging a lot of people with these 3 point versions to the extent that changes made change back at next load. The irritation is quite significant. Why the developers have introduced such an irritant at the expense of users is beyond me.

There should be something in about:config to turn it off. But about:config has many entries.

Since I could not edit my previous post, here's what I wish to add.

Just did this one step on a win 2K computer
    type about:config and filter plugin.scan.plid.all
change the value from "true" to false"

Yes I just did the procedure and plus the other ones. Restarted the boot process and restarted Firefox. I noticed it start to load the second tab again. I quit that and inspected the about:config changes I made-- still there. Just before I wrote this I restarted Ffx 3.6.28 a second time and no raccoon. I will have to keep an eye on this.

Thanks for the help. I had seen that Mozilla link previously but I don't think I did the procedure correctly or completely.

BTW I also used IOBit Uninstall and think it is a valuable tool and will tell others.
