Remove Norton?

I have finally managed to convince my friend to remove the Norton Security Suite that came with her computer. Or rather, her subscription has expired. Since she has had some malware problems in the past year, she is not very enthusiastic about paying for another year of subscriptions to a software suite that didn't get the job done nearly as well as it claimed, and I have promised to set her up with some good free stuff instead.

Now, here is my question: Just how effective is the uninstaller/removal tool from Symantec's website? How much am I going to have to go in and remove manually to make sure that all of it is gone?

    Thanks,
    Mimsy

As well as uninstalling, running the removal tool zbd21 posted above, I would also use CCLeaners tools to delete junk temps and clean up the registry, but also once uninstalled using the uninstallers have a look in Program Files for any left overs.

Plus make sure hiddern files and folders are showing.

Thanks for the advice! I'll keep all of it in mind. My main concern is to make sure that I don't over look a resource hogging process hiding somewhere, that may later slow down the system, cause crashes, et cetera. My friend knows just enough about computers to understand why protection software is vital, but not much more, and would need help to fix any problems caused by Symantec left-overs. So, an ounce of prevention, and all that...

    Thanks again!
