removed windows xp pro sp3 by accident

I accidentally deleted sp3...do I really need this? Also I think my copy of windows xp pro is pirated so how do I delete it and install xp home which I have and is legal?

 

Hi patti1950, first off, you can go to window update, let it scan and download it again.... Yes, you do need SP3, because if you deleted it, you no longer have the patches :cry

As far as your original windows being pirated, I don't think you would have gotten SP3 if it were... Try to download it again.... Are you on a hi-speed connection or a DUN? Hmmm... Maybe someone else would know more about this than me, but I am pretty sure you can just download it again... Once the windows update scan sees you don't have it, it should pick it up for you.... Give that a whirl.....

 

That depends on how new the copy was, and how skillfully it was pirated.

Patti1950, to install your legal copy of XP Home, back up everything on your computer, and then put the XP Home CD in the drive, turn off the computer and start it back up. It should boot from the CD now and tell you, from screen to screen, what you need to do to install the new OS. Note that when you do, you WILL lose whatever is on the hard drive, so the part about backing up everything is kind of important.
