I planned to replace AVG free and ZoneAlarm 9 with Comodo but upon removing ZA I have no internet. I have successfully remove AVG free - I think.

I have tried disabling ZA on startup, rebooted, used ZA removal tools but still no good. The only way I have been able to restore internet is by restoring windows to a previous restore point but then I am back with ZA. I'm using Win 7 ultimate. I upgraded from vista ultimate (not clean install) some months ago. Zone alarm was working but I want to use an alternative.
I have run crap cleaner too, but to no avail.

Network adapters have the latest drivers and appear fine in device manager. After removing ZA, If I run Windows network diagnostics it suggests that there appears to be a problem with both the wired and wireless network adapters.

A side note: I tried re-installing Hamachi recently and that would not work - it couldn't find the network adapter, even though internet was working fine. Hamachi worked fine with vista previously.

Please don't tell me I have to do a clean install. but I'd love it if you can help.

anything like this I would ring my IP. As you are in Adelaide are you using Internode? I find they really try to help especially if you ring in a quiet time, eg 10pm.

If you put Windows 7 disk in, but hold down the shift button to stop it automatically starting up, .
Then click start, click run, and type in sfc /scannow, and the systenm file checker will replace damaged windows files (same as in XP, AND Vista)- Note the space after sfc, and before the/scannow.

I ran sfc /scannow with win 7 disk in. It completed overnight whilst I was sleeping, then closed the window so I don't know what the result was. Good to know that I should have a clean base.

I tried installing Comodo anti virus only and it loaded ok. Had to remove AntiVirus then I tried to install both Comodo anti virus and firewall - the install failed. This makes me think there are remnants of ZA that are preventing installation. ZA appearshalf installed - not working correctly so I have just reinstalled it and will try and remove it again with fingers crossed.

Use Revo Uninstaller on Zone Alarm. It first uses the program's own uninstaller, if it has one, then it goes through and finds entries in the registry.

When looking at the registry items, be careful to only select items in bold. If you simply click select all, you will mangle your registry because keys that should not be deleted will be.
