well i managed to install winXP on a friends hp.
upon the new install, it kep the programs from the win-ME still.
what's the best way to clean this all up.
None of the programs are listed in the add/remove programs, only the new ones i installed (mainly spyware/AV/firefox programs)
Is it as easy as just highlighting the folders and deleting them?
They seem to be taking up a couple of gigs of space and want to get rid of them.
    thanks.

are they on the start > programs menu? ( possible if they are not in add/remove or in the start menu they wont also be in the registry... quick check of HKEY CURRENT USER > Software will tell you this and if so then yes its as easy as deleting the folders)

question? did you not format the HD during the XP install to completely install fresh?

hey halo, not they're not listed in the regedit hkey-users-software...
but the folders are there...so just deleted them?
as for the clean format, i thought i did, but apparently not...it was switching the FAT32 to NTFS and that's when i thought it was formatting, apparently not.

    weird... thingy!!!

yeah personally if they are not in Start Menu and the Registry just delete them as they have no ties to the registry, which is were you would have problems if they were.

    thought i'd add.
this computer doesn't havd a dvd-rom, so im using an external to run the dvd to install XP, when i open it, i choose advanced installation, then it just gives me the window with the 5 green radio buttons on the left without even taking me to the DOS type window screen to choose partitions or reformatting abilities.
not sure quite how to get to that screen.
if there was an internal dvd-rom and i set it to be the first boot up device, i think it may work...i dont know, but im stumped how to to a complete clean reinstall as is....
