removing small item from IE6 tools dropdown menu

Running WinXPPro SP2. Recently removed Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Antispyfrom the pc, also found and removed all Yahoo related items in the registry. When clicking the tools menus in IE6, Yahoo Messenger is still listed in the dropdown. Shouldn't it have disappeared upon removal of the program, and how to finish it off now? Thanks.

 

What method did you use to remove these programs?
The fact that you had to remove entries from the registry makes me question. Typically an uninstallation program would have taken care of those details.

 

The programs uninstalled ok but yahoo messenger still lingers in the tools dropdown menu in IE6. I felt comfortable going to the registry to remove the related yahoo software keys, but didn't have to for the uninstall. The uninstalls were successful from the add/remove programs in the control panel. This is a work pc. I recently removed all Yahoo from my personal pc and the ymessenger disappeared in the IE tools dropdown. Seems it should have here as well. Thanks again.

 

Not sure if I am right but HKLM>software>microsoft>internet explorer>extension.seems like the one.Check the menu text key for finding the app you want to remove.Also try from internet options>programs>manage add-ons

 

Thanks kadavill, the HKLM and IE extension key was correct. Tools dropdown ymessenger removed. Savvy users who understand how to carefully use the registry can stay in control of many such situations.
