How can I remove traces of the Delta Toolbar from my computer (IE9) ?

My ControlPanel > 'uninstall or change a program' list contains entries for 'Delta toolbar' and 'Delta Chrome Toolbar' (I don't have Chrome). When I select either of these, and click 'Uninstall' I get the attached message to the effect Windows can't find them. (I must have unwittingly imported the Delta tool onto my PC with some other download)

I had previously replaced these sites (Delta) as my defaults, and also had run JRT.exe and Adwcleaner ('scan' only mode). Overnight I had also run msert.exe (full scan) which found 12 items.

Rerun Adwcleaner and if it finds any traces of the toolbar, then have it remove them.
If the reference in Programs and Features is still present, then just click Yes at the prompt to remove it from the Programs and Features list.

Typically your best bet is to remove these toolbars and any settings they changed, then do a scan to see if it exists still:

Go to tools, extensions and look for Delta Toolbar, Mixi.DJ and Yontoo and remove them. While you're there, remove anything else you don't want or recognize.

Set your homepage back to what you want. Also, new tab options as well in case that was hijacked.

This is where you might have wanted to uninstall it from control panel and THEN maybe ADW cleaner.

Do a malwarebytes scan with the browser closed. if the above failed.

Honestly, while this can work on some, others are more stubborn. IMHO, fixing the settings it changed, removing toolbars that are not THIS toolbar but related and then a scan is the way to go. This one isn't that easy.

Thank you for your suggestions _nullptr and MajorAttitude.

->MajorAttitude ( & anyone else who can advise)

Sorry to be so stupid (hence my tag), I assume this means "[using IE9, ] Go to tools, extensions and look for Delta Toolbar, Mixi.DJ and Yontoo and remove them "

...under Tools I don't see 'extensions', under Tools>Toolbars (which I supposed was the next place to look under - sse screenshot) I don't see anything that I think relevant...ah, Tools>Manage AddOns>Toolbars and Extensions...that's it ?

A few things there I don't recognise like one from EGIS TECHNOLOGY (maybe been there a long time) and three from SYMANTEC (a left over from Norton which the PC came with) but seem harmless - never given me an obvious problem anyway - so, do nothing at this stage.

    Homepage - correct - http://uk.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/web?fr=altavista

"new tab options" -I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest idea what you mean ?

Because I haven't done anything, I guess that I am still unable to uninstall from CP, I don't want to simply remove from list because I still don't understand if there's someting more, and Adwcleaner (whichincidentally, as I have observed elsewhere in MG, is found to be malware by AVG) will not find anything when it scans (it finds only DvmMDES). I have never run Adwcleaner in anything other than 'scan' mode.

none of 'the above' failed, but should I run malwarebytes anyway ?

    MajorAttitude, plodr
    Thank you for your suggestion.

I have already run JRT.exe once (as stated in my opening post)

Still, I will run it again.

Is it possible that nothing of the delta toolbar remains except the entries in 'uninstaal or remove programs' list ?

I've just run JRT.exe, I clicked download, and selected 'run' immediately (didn't save)

At some point in the scan it closed my windows in IE9.

The scan found nothing aside from 1 registry key to be 'repaired' and 4 which it deleted.

Both entries for the delta toolbar are still present in the 'uninstall...programs' list in CP

An unusual thing happened when clicked on the IE logo on my taskbar (by default it's always there) - the attached message window appeared. When I clicked the OK button, I got the window from IE9>Tools>Manage Add-Ons>Search Providers, which showed two items, Ask (not available, top result:not available)) and bing (enabled, top result:not available). I don't know what this means, I've never even looked in this section before. My home page was still as I'd set it (http://uk.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs/web?fr=altavista), and I rarely use other search engines apart from google (and I don't like their privacy policy). My PC has not been reset since yesterday when I nstalled Windows updates.

ps prior to running JRT I stopped the process/service DvmDMES by the method described here On my computer the from which this service seems to originate (after some quick connsultation on the internet), DVMExportService.exe, was 'date modified' 01/04/2010 [English notation I think] (does this mean introduced onto my PC ? )

You needed to save JRT to your computer, exit all browsers (check in Task Manager that none are running) and then run it. That's likely the reason for the Search Provider notification and subsequent Internet Explorer behaviour.
Give JRT one more run, but this time follow the above instructions.
Yes, it's quite possible that anything of significance has been removed. Thisisu (JRT developer) keeps on top of all these toolbars and other unwanted junk by taking a snapshot of the system before and after installation. JRT is constantly being updated to deal with new junk and variants. :)

Of course jrt.exe had been saved to my computer, so I found it and ran it again, having closed all (both) IE9's I was running.

It ran OK, and opened a log file when it finished. This showed nothing found, nothing done.

    Now my problems start -
Either running jrt.exe or maybe (I don't know what I did if anything while it was running), when JRT was running, pressing a (or some) buttons on keyboard caused the task bar to disappear. I was stuck without that. I decided the only thing to do was power off/power on (I didn't think of F11 or whichever, nor pressing the windows key; at the discovery I'd lost my task bar I was stuck)

This restored the task bar (and system tray). I opened IE (from the taskbar), and logged in to MG, then I clicked on the windows icon at the left of the taskbar (exteme bottom L of screen), and the LHS of the usual window that opens, where the commonly used programs are was blank, white. I bought up the list of all programs and clicked accessories, then right-clicked on Command Prompt, and the circulating circle came up. I can't do anything with that now, and I discovered that the taskbar was unusable also (moving the mouse pointer over that turned it into ciculating circle), so

what should I do now ?

(when I get task manager up it works OK, but minimising it does not, it vanishes (something to do with the taskbar being 'locked' ?) I guess I can soft reboot by cntrl-alt-del oand either logging off, logging into another account or clicking the red power icon at the bottom R of that screen.

    Update:

so yesterday night I gave in (because I'd been waiting, and mostly because I accidentally minimised IE9 which meant I'd no way of getting access to it), cntrl-alt-del'd, selected 'restart' from the red button at lower RHS of screen, and rebooted.

Upon restart, everything appeared to be working again, the blue circle had gone (except for short periods when PC was busy), and my start menu programs had returned. I had access to my computer again.

BUT the original issue that this post was about was still there - Delta toolbar and Delta Chrome toolbar were still in the programs list (Start>CP>Programs>Unistall a Program), unable to be uninstalled.

I shall download Revo Unistaller and see if that can do anything.
