Removing Trojan from my thumb drive

Before my free license for AVG expired, I ran AVG on my thumb drive. It indicated that I have a trojan backdoor, said it was healed but it kept reappearing upon new scans (and the trojan didn't get transferred to the virus vault). What can I do to get the trojan off my thumb drive?

thank you for your reply. I have one concern: I'm scared to put my thumb drive into my computer for fear of infecting my computer. I had a horrid time previously cleaning it up from a host of malware. Is it safe to stick the thumb drive in my computer and run, as you suggested, AVG free antivirus and say comodo anti-malware (which is the program I downloaded based on a set of instructions provided on this web-site).

BTW, I meant to say "It instills new hope in humanity" not, "no hope". I guess I have a bug in my brain too. :^)
